How to play

You start with two hidden roles. Income gives one safe coin; foreign aid gives two but can be blocked by a Duke. Claim a role even without holding it.
Duke taxes three; Captain steals up to two; Assassin costs three and removes influence; Ambassador exchanges cards. Captain or Ambassador blocks steals; Contessa blocks assassination.
Challenge a claim or counterclaim. A truthful defender shows the role and draws a replacement; the challenger loses a chosen influence. A false claimant loses influence. A failed action challenge also consumes that action’s block opportunity.
Coup costs seven and cannot be challenged or blocked. At ten coins, coup is mandatory. Lose both influences and lose. This two-player base edition omits Reformation; the first player begins with one coin and the rival with two.
